Chipping show 2016 – a summary
Show day dawned dry and bright, the heavy rain earlier in the week had done little harm, it was just a bit sticky under foot in some of the marquees.
Following a short interview on Radio Lancashire julie and i set off for the show where the pleasant weather added to the general good feeling of those who had worked so hard in preparing for the day.
Our new admission system worked well and generally, parking was dealt with efficiently, this proved so important as on this occasion our visitors starting arriving earlier than usual.
Once on the field the usual attractions were in full swing with a range of catering available. The local crafts, childrens’ competitions, photography, horticulture, bakery and after last year’s forced absence the poultry show, were all well represented.
Cattle, sheep, horse and ponies of all sizes and types and of course the famous Chipping Show dog show were on view.
For the young people, there were the childrens’ races and the “fairground” attractions. The annual fell race took place in the afternoon and on this occasion with a record time in the ladies’ race. The tug-of-war also drew a crowd.
The sheep racing once again proved popular, as did the pony club demonstrations with the grand parade and prize presentation providing a suitable climax to the day.
As the shadows started to lengthen there were still plenty of people on the field while the digger competition and egg catching took place and following another successful cheese competition, the auction raised a considerable amount of money for local charities.
I hope everyone had as an enjoyable day as did Julie and I. Our grateful thanks go to all our visitors but especially to that dedicated team of committee members and organisers for all their hard work.
